30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE HiRes Limits on the Tau Neutrino Flux at the Highest Energies
نویسنده
چکیده
Data from the High Resolution Fly’s Eye detector that measures cosmic rays with the fluorescence technique is used to set limits on the flux of tau neutrinos in the energy range from 10 to 10 eV. This energy range is particularly interesting as we expect a guaranteed flux of cosmogenic neutrinos from the GZK mechanism.

HiRes Estimates and Limits for Neutrino Fluxes at the Highest Energies
The High Resolution Fly’s Eye Experiment (HiRes) measures cosmic rays (CR) at the highest energies using the air fluorescence technique. As data taking on the Dugway Proving Grounds in Western Utah is finished, the HiRes data are relevant for cosmogenic neutrinos in two different ways. We first use our best fit to the measured HiRes CR spectrum together with a model of the extragalactic CR sour...
متن کامل30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Neutrino and Gamma Ray Flux Expectations from HiRes Monocular Fits
A simple model of a homogeneous population of cosmic accelerators injecting protons following a unique power law has long been shown to fit the HiRes monocular data very well. The model evolves the sources with redshift and adjusts both the redshift evolution and the exponent in the injecting power law to fit the data. At lower energies galactic iron is added in as suggested by composition meas...
متن کامل30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Search for Intermediate-Scale Anisotropy by the HiRes Experiment
The HiRes collaboration has searched for intermediate-scale anisotropy of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays in two ways: first a search for variation with declination of the flux of cosmic rays, and second in their arrival directions. The data of the HiRes-II detector was used in the search.
متن کامل30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE An upper limit on the electron-neutrino flux from the HiRes instrument
Air-fluorescence detectors such as the High Resolution Fly’s Eye (HiRes) instrument are very sensitive to upward-going, Earth-skimming ultrahigh energy electron-neutrino-induced showers. This is due to the relatively large interaction cross sections of these high-energy neutrinos and to the LandauPomeranchuk-Migdal (LPM) effect. The LPM effect is responsible for a significant decrease in the cr...
متن کامل30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Nuclear Cosmic Rays propagation in the Atmosphere
The transport of the nuclear cosmic ray flux in the atmosphere is studied and the atmospheric corrections to be applied to the measurements are calculated. The contribution of the calculated corrections to the accuracy of the experimental results are discussed and evaluated over the kinetic energy range 10-10 GeV/n. The Boron (B) and Carbon (C) elements system is used as a test case. It is show...
